The Reclusive Place of Chen Yuanyuan and the Descendents of Wu Sangui
LI Zhi-ting
The surrender to and rebellion against the Qing Imperial Court led to the order of the killing of all his family members twice by the Central Government, which was mentioned in the official history books. As for the fate of Chen Yuanyuan, who was Wu Sangui’s treasured concubine, there are different stories, such as committing suicide in a lake, escape or recluse. Such historical records seem to prove that all Yu Sangui’s family members were killed.
The recent news that there are Wu Sangui’s descendents and Chen Yuanyuan’s tomb in Majia Village of Cengong County in Guizhou Province is shocking. Together with several experts on the Qing history, the author of this paper made two investigations in Majia Village and proved that the Wu family there were descendents of Wu Sangui, and Chen Yuanyuan lived there as a recluse. There exist Wu Sangui’s, Chen Yuanyuan’s, Ma Bao’s and Wu Yinglin’s tombs in this village.
There have been controversies over whether the body of Wu Sangui was seized by the Qing Imperial Court. In July 2010 when the author of this paper was in Majia Village of Cengong County in Guizhou Province, he heard of much talking of Chen Yuanyuan and Wu Sangui but had doubt about its truth. In October, the author of this paper made another investigation of this tomb and concluded that it was Wu Sangui's tomb. The paper also gives a historical account of Wu Sangui's body and his tombstone.

The Window of Imagining China: The Transformation of the Image of Wu Sangui in Korean Chinese Ancient Books
Jin Meilan
The image of Wu Sangui in Korean Chinese ancient books underwent roughly three changes, mainly divided into before and after surrendering the northeast China to the Qing Dynasty, the period of uprising against the Qing Dynasty, and after the defeat of his army, which were recorded in Korean official history, unofficial history, personal collections of scholar-bureaucrat, and History of YanXingLu. These Korean Chinese ancient books’ understanding of Wu Sangui generally went through a transition from regret and reverence to condemnation. The reasons behind these changes can be attributed to the deeply ingrained concept of the differentiating between the ancient Chinese Empire and minority states in Korean people’s minds, as well as inadequate and untimely access to relevant information. From the evolution of Wu Sangui’s image, we can grasp the evolution of the Korean scholar-bureaucrat’s imagination of China, which has some significance for understanding Korean people’s perception of the Qing dynasty in different historical periods. Most of the records about Wu Sangui in Korea express their respective and clear opinions and comments. Through the analysis of Wu Sangui’s image, this article further explores how the collision of Korean political stance and real emotions are written in the text, and analyzes the relationship between the historical figures related to political interests and political power, thereby understanding the various political forces within the Korean Dynasty and their perception of China.作者: 崇让堂 时间: 昨天 13:06
